White Wedding by Josh McCullock and Gibson Events: "

When I was little, my parents took me to visit my aunt, who happened to live in a perfect apartment right on the Boston Commons. An all white, absolutely perfect apartment right on the Boston Commons. I fell in love. Not with the apartment really, but with the idea of dressing my world in white. And ever since then, that is exactly what I have done. White winter coats, white furniture, white purses, shoes, pants, even white sofas. Gasp. So when I saw this white inspired wedding shoot sent to us by Oklahoma photographer Josh McCullock, with styling and design by Gibson Events, well…I swooned even harder than usual.

Inspiration: Wine glass terrariums, succulents, ferns and a vintage tandem bike

Some of the highlights of this shoot included locally made butcher block cutting board as cake plateau, succulents and ferns in a collection of milk glass compotes, vintage Schwinn tandem bike and custom menus and place cards designed by Kathleen Shannon for Gibson Events. They also had an Italian Soda bar featuring vinyl decal of tandem bike and a custom wedding cake by Sugar.

And if you didn’t think it could get any better…wrong! Here is a film of the shoot so you can really see it all come to life..

This picture (by my 1708-mate, Josh McCullock) made me laugh. Then it made me think about how I work. Although I sit at this desk on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays looking at least halfway decent, I spend much more time standing with a cup of coffee in my kitchen - laptop on the counter and my toddler playing with her dolly, or more likely ripping up a newspaper that she found in the living room.

I'm a mom, a wife, a daughter, an entrepreneur, a volunteer and a friend making a go of having it all.

Speaking of being a mom, here are some of Daltrey's one year photos by the ever talented Brandi Traina of Traina Photography. Just realized I never posted them!

We are so proud of the Gibson Events tabletop design spread on pages 88 and 89 of the brand new issue of the Brides of Oklahoma! The title of this year's submission is British Glam. I imagined it as the reception for a couple of really hip Londoners.

Event design is pretty much one of my favorite things in the whole world. I really get into the creative process. This year my submission came complete with a playlist, that although not in the magazine, I feel enhances the visual experience. With the start of the New Year comes exciting press exposure for Gibson Events that we would love to share with everyone (just in case you missed it!).

If you happened to pick up the January/February edition of Silk Magazine, published by the Norman Transcript, you were bound to notice Lindsay's interview on wedding trends for 2010,

entitled "Here Come the Changes". Over the beautiful two-page spread featuring Gibson Events weddings, she dishes her wisdom and insight in wedding inspiration, photography and colors, as well as helpful tips on how to save money yet still create your dream wedding. I met Euna and Travis in February of '09 when she hired me on the spot. After discussing dental school, medical school and DIY invitation making, the conversation was going pretty well, but when Travis told me they have a dog named Wilco, I knew I was in. I really enjoyed getting to know them over the course of the planning and had so much fun with them on their wedding day!

Getting married or having your reception (or both) on the OU campus allows couples to have photographs taken among some of the most beautiful landscaping and historic buildings in the state (not that I'm biased - Boomer Sooner). These vibrant, lovely, gorgeous and memorable photos were taken by Christian Sangree, better known as Prints Charming!

Miss Euna wanted something a little out of the ordinary. After the cake cutting she slipped out and returned moments later in a much shorter version of her wedding gown and these fabulous dancing shoes!!

Weddings are fun. Some weddings are just crazy fun. This was one of those. During the course of most weddings there will be a few bumps that my crew and I work to take care of, making sure that the guests and hosts are none the wiser, but Tiffany and Jerrod's day was perfect. I mean down to being able to slip out and take food and a bottle of champagne to their hotel room smooth.

This classic Chevy picked the couple up at the church and delivered them safely to the reception at the Civic Center's Hall of Mirrors.

Heading up the stairs to make their grand entrance to the reception, photographer Aaron Snow is a master at catching intimate moments and unexpected shots.

Tiffany and Jarrod left the reception in style in a pedicab I flagged down in Bricktown 20 minutes earlier.

Brandy and Dylan were and are exceptional. She, so elegant and sure of herself - He, truly thoughtful and perceptive.

Brandy was in LOVE with the West view from the 36th floor. Unfortunately, at the rehearsal we discovered that the ceremony time caught the sun just before (instead of after) sunset. The light was literally blinding to the seated guests. Although her mother and I did our best to convince Brandy that changing the orientation of the room to face the North would be a worthy option- she persisted. Well... Brandy was right. On the day of her wedding the skies were unsettled. Mostly sunny gave way to partly cloudy which gave way (30 minutes prior to the ceremony) to the most amazing line of thunderstorms rolling in from Western Oklahoma. We were treated to a background of wildly streaking lightning- bright white against a cornflower blue sky and cotton candy cumulus clouds.

Once retiring to the reception, guests had a view from North, through West to South, as a continuous light show provided as much beauty as the elegant 35th floor ballroom!

Guests danced the night away before sending Brandy and Dylan off into the night through a waving sea of sparklers (this is where I simply must interject that I detest sparkler exits- If I'm planning your wedding, and you REALLY want one, I'll do it, but just know that I detest them and I've got umpteen work outfits with burn holes in them to prove it)(okay back to the story). Thankfully the rain made its exit just before the guests made theirs!

Erica knows what she wants and works until she gets it... just my kind of gal! She nabbed Anders while studying abroad, and managed to get the native of Denmark to move to Oklahoma. Every detail of this stunning wedding was attended to with decisiveness and care. Above all, Erica and Anders are a chilled out couple with a fantastic attitude toward life.

Esther Gutman of Photos By Esther took these creative and emotive photos.

For their sit down dinner for 225 we created escort cards and personalized menus with a fantastic deco font. In order to alphabetize the escort cards and have them look fabulous on the table, my assistant Mallory reset this table four times. Good thing I was at the church at the time, I bet she said some not so nice words!

Simply stunning in her gown, Erica posed for photos in several locations on the OU campus.

A room wash, dramatic uplights and a custom dancefloor monagram from IES kept the guests, Danish and American alike, dancing late into the night.

Seriously, have you ever seen anything so cool? Centerpieces by Poppy Lane Design.

Erica's bouquet looked straight out of a magazine. The juxtaposition of cymbidium orchids and pheasant feathers was tres chic, just like the bride!

Emily and Russ

Emily and Russ were meant to be or, "Kismet", but because they do things their own way, they prefer "KI'Z'MET". I had the pleasure of working with Emily (and sometimes Russ) throughout the planning process. They decided to get married at home, in this case a FANTASTIC house in Norman that they finished renovating only 48 hours before the ceremony! The intimate ceremony and seated dinner for 40 was decorated beautifully in shades of crimson and cream.

Farmhouse tables, leaded crystal candelabras and ghost chairs from Mood party rentals set the tone for dinner by candlelight.

Emily and Russ are fantastic hosts and wanted to be sure all of their guests needs were seen to. We ensured that each guest would have a full tummy and happy memories of the wedding by sending them home with a breakfast of cinnamon rolls and juice from one of their favorite Norman eateries, Fancy That. For a little extra fun we created a word search using words significant to their swift but meaningful courtship.

Emily and I worked with Lorie Samples of Red Bud Floral to create a ravishing, and delicious smelling, bouquet that while full, wasn't overpowering of Emily's petite frame.

Charley Samples, of Charles Samples Photograpy, is a master at capturing the emotion of a moment. Here we see Emily descending the stairs to meet her dad, only seconds before she walked down the aisle!

The 100 square foot tree house in the backyard was built by a previous owner. The romantic site served as the scene of Russ' over the top candle lit proposal.

If I were to describe Emily in one word, I'd have to choose "fun". I think the above photo pretty much sums it up.

It is the first glimpse of the celebration that's to come. Perhaps that is why so many couples spend HOURS, often to the detriment of the groom's emotional well being, selecting just the right invitation. My favorites are often simple, creative, unique and well made. Why not make something that your guests will treasure as a keepsake?

Here are a few of my recent favorites!

The above three beauties are from oblation letterpress. I love the modern/vintage feel!

This unique design is from Modern Invitation Design, an Oklahoma company!!

An updated classic from Whitney English, based right here in OKC.

Although this sample from Whitney English is shown for a shower, I think it would make a unique statement as a wedding invitation, perhaps for a brunch celebration held at one of Oklahoma's many historic homes?

This poster style invite from Elum would be a welcome and unexpected treat for guests of a couple in the news or entertainment business!

This beautiful suite called "Orangerie" is from Dauphine Press. Guests would look forward to a summer evening event held at an orchard or maybe in your parents backyard?

Other "invitation-ers" that may inspire are Milkfed Press, Bella Figura, PaperSource and Julie Holcomb Printers

Jodi and Jason... and Libby

Jodi and Jason were a blast to work with. Their July 11th wedding was a blur of activity! Adding to the buzz was Jason's daughter Libby who during the rehearsal, as Jodi walked down the aisle with her dad, proclaimed "No! I thought you were marrying my daddy! You can't marry Papa Joe!" The whole wedding party was in stitches. On the wedding day both Jodi and Libby were a vision in white and carried matching bouquets of red gerber daisies.

Jodi and Jason were both nervous about the ceremony. They opted to relieve some of the tension by seeing each other before the ceremony. The staff at the Summit and Gentry Photography helped us make the reveal an incredibly special moment. We put Jodi on the elevator on the 31st floor, and had Jason waiting on the 30th floor to see his bride as the elevator doors opened. The moment was magic.

Batman made an appearance as the "plus one" of the ring-bearer.

Superman made an appearance as the groom!

The couple rode off into the evening in the back of a white 64 Mustang convertible. Driven by my husband, and borrowed from my father-in-law!

Still waiting. As a homeowner and survivor of a major remodel I understand that project timelines ought to be automatically multiplied by 2.5. So here we are in early April not knowing when we will gain occupancy to our space (that was to be done March 1).

Its not that things aren't happening, its just that they are happening r..e..a..l..l..y..s..l..o..w..l..y..

Fingers crossed that each week will be "the week"... here are some recent photos to tide us over!

1708 is really coming along! Friday night was "Plaza Live" a monthly happening in the district when all the businesses stay open late and party with the locals. With the final touches (including light fixtures) still to be finished in our space, we had to make due with hanging some awesomely large posters in the windows (thanks Bryan!) to announce that we're still working on it.

A Rock-a-Billy Wedding Done Right

Cindi Finneran and Charley Reeves

No strangers to fun, Cindi and Charley were married near the creek in Medicine Park, Oklahoma, followed by a rockin' reception at the historic Medicine Park Music Hall.

Charley sang and played for Cindi as she walked from the historic spa (now a weekend rental) across the street to meet him on an island in the creek. All of their five kids participated in the beautiful ceremony, which was quickly followed by a reception featuring Charley's band, The Townies and and a fantastic spread from Forward Foods in Norman.

Guests ate, drank and danced well into the wee hours before retiring to their rented cottages dotted all around the quaint town. What a blast!

The backstage area of the hall is festooned with the artistry of groups who have performed on her stage. Naturally, Cindi and Charley left their mark as well!

Well, the time has come. Gibson Events is leaping with both feet into a new era. I am proud to announce that Gibson Events, along with Josh McCullock Photography and Cafe Evoke are the founding members of "1708" a coop of creative professionals based in the Plaza District in OKC. 1708 is a storefront property located in an historic building in the buzzing district along 16th Street; 1708 NW 16th Street to be specific. We signed the lease yesterday and hope to host you and all your friends at an opening in early April.

The biggest part of my job is ensuring that each event is produced using reputable, creative vendors of the highest quality. Josh McCullock Photography and Cafe Evoke, a specialty coffee catering company headed by Jason Duncan, are two of the most innovative professionals I could have dreamed to share a space and an ideal with. I think you will agree, their work is top notch!

Here are a few photos of the space, taken last week by Josh (of course). The space has come a long way since then- they'll be painting next week!

If you're reading this blog, you probably know... or maybe you don't ?... that Andy and I welcomed our first baby, Daltrey, last August. In 6 short months she has managed to change our lives so profoundly for the better. So clients, if you hear a little one exploring her vocal range in the background when you call, here she is.

Brandi Traina of Traina Photography was too kind to take these amazing photos both of the pregnancy and of our beautiful Daltrey. Many of these shots now adorn our family photo wall and touch me every time I see them.

Gibson Events was honored to be selected for the "9 Designers and Their Tabletop Decor" feature in the latest issue of the Brides of Oklahoma Magazine. I had a blast working with Tulips, B.C. Clark, Poppy Lane Design, Coles Garden and Tara Lokey to bring together my submitted design.

I really love a simple and well put together table. My personal design aesthetic is more restrained than busy. I can appreciate the quality of the pieces on this table, but I love that it looks inviting. Don't you just want to sit down and have a drink?

Every once in a while a bride and groom come along... you know the ones who make you want to relive your own wedding? Traci and Brent are that couple for me. They have a fantastic style and can send you into hysterics with their dry humor. Christian and Brandi Traina of Traina Photography did such an excellent job with these photos. I think they are some of my favorite wedding photos EVER.

Brent is a landscape architecture student and wanted to do the flowers himself. I had the good fortune to assist him in this endeavor and I think our work turned out to be successful! I also had the opportunity to decorate the cake myself. I love the vintage milk glass compotes we used... especially the tiny one on top of the cake!
